Volunteer with research teams in our hospitals

We need an army of research volunteers to help us find new treatments and new hope for people with illnesses like cancer, asthma or dementia. By becoming a research volunteer, you will be directly helping clinical research in Nottingham.

Research Volunteers

In 2021 we introduced our first Research Volunteers at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. Now we are creating new opportunities for local people to volunteer alongside research teams based in the hospitals to help:

  • Raise awareness and help promote the research that is taking place
  • Work with and advise researchers about all aspects of the research they carry out
  • Represent Nottingham’s research on a regional and national level

We are grateful to Nottingham Hospitals Charity for their support for our Research Volunteers programme and to the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust Voluntary Services who support the recruitment process for new people wanting to join.

Being a Research Volunteer

Being a Research Volunteer means that you will be a valued and recognised contributor to local clinical research teams based in our local hospitals.

You don’t need to be an expert in clinical research or have any previous experience of research to get involved. You’ll receive a full introduction to clinical research and ongoing support to learn more about the different ways that research is improving treatment and care for local patients.

As a Research Volunteer you will be able to choose the type of support you’d like to offer and what areas of research you’d like to be involved in. Research Volunteers will be working with our front-line research teams based in the organisations listed below. You can find out more about the research that they do on their websites:

Research Volunteers will also be able to become part of the wider regional and national networks of people who support clinical research through giving their time.

How to apply

Currently, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are not recruiting new volunteers.

Once it is safe to do so, we will be re-opening recruitment. The recruitment for Research Volunteers is managed by the Voluntary Services team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH). Your application will be processed by NUH. You can find all of the details on the Volunteering pages of the NUH website. The link below will take you to the Volunteering pages.
